THE ORIGINAL BIBLE READER
Copywrite (C) 1994 by Robert D. Wood, Radisson, Wisconsin, U. S. A.
"All rights reserved"
This program will run on floppy disk. To run at full speed, make a
directory OBR on the hard drive. Copy all files to the same, and run the
program with the command OBR.
COMMANDS
All commands on the main menu may be executed by entering their first letter.
To execute the Books command, enter B .
Books
This command will select two books of the Bible. The two selected books,
one from the Old Testament and one from the New, are always highlighted.
They appear with the Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek commands on the main menu.
Enter B to access the table of 66 books of the Holy Bible. Using the
arrows on the keyboard, one book from the Old Testament may be selected
and one from the New.
(In the demo program, only the books of Ruth and 1st John may be selected.
The order screen will be displayed whenever unavailable books are selected.)
Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek
These commands select the language to be read or translated. Only one
of these will be active at one time. If Translate mode is off, the
original text of the selected language will be displayed verse by verse.
If Translate mode is on, each word will be translated into English or
whatever language has been used in the dictionary definitions.
Translate
This selects the translate mode. The Hebrew, Aramaic or Greek command
should then follow. The original text will be translated from the user
extendable dictionary. Selecting the Translate command again will change
back to read only mode.
New
This command selects the new data mode. When followed by the Hebrew,
Aramaic or Greek command, definitions may be changed or added to the
appropriate language dictionary (DCT file). It is strongly recommended
that the user refrain from using this command until he is well versed
in Biblical language study. Once definitions have been changed, the
first ones are lost. To be safe, make backup copies of the DCT or DMO
files.
Note: Words may be entered in other languages besides English. This
can be a unique tool in Bible translation for spreading the gospel of
Jesus Christ to unreached tribes.
Instruction
This command presents an overview of the Original Bible Reader method.
Elementary Biblical lingistics include a pronunciation guide and
examples of transliteration.
Quotations
This essay is oriented toward the Aramaic language. Much of the material
covered here is widely unknown. A chart of Aramaic words used in the New
Testament is included.
Commands
This is the command that displays the present text. The main menu is
covered as well as the reader command line.
Sources
This will display a list of some of the sources which were consulted to
make this work possible.
Other
What you are enjoying now in the books of Ruth and 1st John is available
for the entire Bible. Please feel free to offer any comments or ask
any questions when you order.
Music
This command calls up the MU music player program. About 800 hymns are
available in the full edition. The user may add more of his own!
Exit
This command of course exits the program.
THE BIBLE TRANSLATOR COMMAND LINE
After a book and language have been selected, the English Bible text will
appear followed by the Hebrew, Aramaic or Greek text. At the bottom of
the screen will be the reader command line. It will be as follows:
<SPACE> Scroll <ENTER> Translate New Chapter Vocab Grammar Return Exit
As with the main menu, each command is selected by using the first letter.
To select Scroll, enter S or the enter key. Translate by T or the space bar.
Scroll
This will advance the texts one verse at a time.
Translate, New, Exit
These are the same commands as entered from the main menu.
Chapter
This will advance the text one chapter at a time. Very handy to reach
Psalm 150 verse 6. Also great to do what the reference says - Praise
the LORD!
Vocab
This command will bring up the most popular words. It will be a great
advantage for the beginner to memorize these.
Grammar
Here is a concise grammar of each Biblical language. There will be some
exceptions and variant spellings, of course.
Return
This command will bring you back to the main menu.
Note: While in the New mode (data entry mode), the bottom line menu may
be accessed by entering just one letter, then press Enter key. If you
enter more than one letter, the text will be stored in the current
language dictionary.
